About Stephanie

Stephanie Weldy is a journalist working for a Bay Area News Group publication in the San Francisco Bay Area.

She currently covers the morning cops-and-fire beat and the San Rafael and Novato city beats for the Marin Independent Journal. Having worked as a journalist in Central California and Orange County, the stories in her portfolio vary in topic, from stories on California’s drought, homicides, a series on Tulare County’s illiteracy rate, civil rights leader Cesar Chavez receiving military funeral honors 22 years after death, and more.

Stephanie regularly follows current events by each day reading either the Los Angeles Times or The New York Times. She uses that knowledge to guide her daily coverage.

Stephanie is both a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

She is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine’s Literary Journalism program.
